Myanmar New Year Water Festival is Celebrate all over
the country, especially in the cities and large towns,
you will find pandal sponsored by communities,
societies, businesses and lots of water flows down the
pipes and buckets.
Water is a symbol of coolness, clearness and cleansing
of dirt and grime.
The festival of Thingyan that is made most merry and
enjoyable with pouring or throwing water on one another
is taken as one that cleanses one and all of all dirt
and grime of the old year and cools and clears the minds
of the people for the new year. Pouring water in ' New
Year' is believed to cleanse the body and mind of evils
of year that was left behind. There is merriment and fun
galore. But it is not all fun and play; the elderly and
the pious perform a lot of meritorious deeds to usher in
the 'New Year' . People keep Sabbath; go to pagodas and
monasteries; and offer foods and alms to monks and nums.
Even children and youths too welcome the 'New Year' by
paying respects to their parents, teachers and elders.
To gain merit, fish and cattle are also set free. Though
merriment and fun and meritorious and pious deeds, the
Myanmar usher in a 'New Year'. We are exempted to pour
water during these days like old people, pregnant, young
children, and uniform wearing person.
Thin-Gyan is not only a time for fun but a season of
goodwill and good deeds. So you will meet and enjoy with
how Myanmar people celebrate their water festival.
