JANUARY
Ananda Pagoda Festival
Location: Ananda Pagoda, Bagan
Duration: One Week
The Ananda is King Kyansitthar's masterpiece. One of the
most popular pagoda festivals in Myanmar. Pilgrimage and
villagers come in covered bullock carts and camp during
the festival. The pagoda festival is held for a
fortnight during Pyatho (January) around the full moon
day.
Naga New Year Festival
Location: Leshi, Sagaing Division
Duration: 1 day
One of the rarest ceremonies. The Naga tribes live in
the mountains, valleys and plains of one of the most
remote regions on earth, in the northwest corner of
Myanmar close to India. Different Naga clans gather in
their colourful costumes to perform ritual dances with
endledd drinking of rice wine and feasting on wild boar
meat.
Kachin Manaw Festival
Location: Myitkyina, Kachin State
Duration: 8 days
Traditional Kachin Manaw, a Nat (Spirits) Festival held
in every January to celebrate a victory or achievement
in the state capital, Myitkyina, to usher in the New
Year and to celebrate prosperity and abundance.
Traditional Manaw poles, decorated with Kachin motifs,
and are placed in the center of the Manaw grounds. The
dance is a show of gratitude to their ancestral spirits
and their wish for brighter future. Although most Kachin
are now Christians, they are still proud of their
ancestral traditions.

FEBRUARY
Inndawgyi Pagoda Festival
Location: Moe Nyin, Kachin State
Duration: 8 days
Indawgyi, Myanmar's biggest natural lake, is situated in
the Moegaung area in the Myitkyina district of the
Kachin State. The lake is 16 miles long (north-south)
and 7 miles wide (east-west) with a total lake area of
is 80 sq miles. Every year, the festival of the Shwe-
Myintzu Pagoda, built during the Konebaung era, is held
from the 8th waxing day to the 1st waning day of
Tabaung.
Pindaya Pagoda Festival
Location: Pindaya, Southern Shan State
Duration: 3 days
Traditionally a pagoda festival in honour of the Buddha
statues inside the Pindaya Cave held in every fullmoon
day of Tabaung. The native tribes such as Danu, Pa O,
Taung Yoe and Palaung make offerings on the full moon
day. Festivities include performances by roaming artists
and there is a busy market.
Salone Traditional Festival
Location: Myeik Archipelago
Duration: 3 days
The Salone are people living on archipalego in Myeik
area. The Salone Traditional Festival (Sea Gypsies
Festival) will be held at Manjungalet Village on Boncho
Island and attraction as unspoiled natural beauty of
Myanmar.

Shwemawdaw Pagoda Festival
Location: Bago
Duration: One Week
Theatrical artists perform on stage.
Shwedagon Pagoda Festival
Location: Yangon
Duration: One week preceding the fullmoon day of Tabaung
It is a traditional Buddhist pagoda festival and one of
the most important pagoda festivals in the country.

APRIL
Thingyin Water Festival
Location: All over the country
Duration: 5 days
Traditional Myanmar New Year Celebrations. People pour
water over each other in a symbolic gesture of cleaning
oneself of sins from the old year. Youths go out for
enjoyment while elders take retreat in monasteries and
pagoda precints to perform meritorious deeds.
Popa Nat or Spirits Festival
Location: Mt. Popa,
Duration: 1 day
Mount Popa, a 1500m high extinct volcano, is about 50-km
southeast of bagan. It is the legendary home of nats of
spirits. The Nat festival is held on Myanmar New Year
Day in Tagu (April).

MAY
Kason Fullmoon Festival or
Watering of the Sacred Bo-Tree Festival
Location: All over the country
Duration: 1 day
Buddha is said to have attained Enlightenment under the
Bo Tree and Buddhists flock to pour water on this sacred
tree to gain merit. Seen at most prominent pagoda and
monastery precincts all over the country on the Fullmoon
day of Kason.

AUGUST
Taungbyone Nat Festival
Location: At Taungbyone village near Mandalay
Duration: 5 days
The most famous of the Nat festivals ( appeasing of
spirits) in Myanmar. Thousands of Myanmar people attend
this annual celebration, held in honour of the
Taungbyone Brother lords. This event is especially
visited by the traders and merchants who want help for
more profits. Spiritual dances are rampant.

OCTOBER
Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival
Location: Inle lake
Duration: 26 days
This festival in Inle Lake is the biggest occasion of
the lake. 4 Buddha Images are carried around the
villages of the lake on a decorated royal barge called
Karaweik (Mythical bird) and towed by hundreds of
leg-rowers. The unique and most interesting event of the
festival is the Shan traditional boat races participated
by leg-rowers of men and women dressed in their national
costumes.
Shwezigon Pagoda Festival
Location: Bagan
Duration: 15 days
Candle lights and fireworks are carried in procession
before offering to the pagoda.
Thadingyut Festival of Lights
Location: All over the country
Duration: 3 days
This is the great festival of Thadingyut. Celebrated on
a fullmoon day and marked by illuminations the three day
lights festival. Illuminations are there to celebrate
the anniversary of the Buddha's return from the
celestial abode after spending 3 months of the Buddhist
Lord there.
Elephant Dance Festival
Location: Kyaukse, Mandalay Division
Duration: 2 days
From 14th waxing day until the fullmoon day. Papier
mache elephants are carried around the town towards the
pagoda on the Kyaukse Hill. A dance competition features
these elephants.

NOVEMBER
Hot Air Balloons & Fireworks
Festival
Location: Taunggyi, Shan State
Duration: 7 days
Traditionally it is to pay homage to the Sulamuni pagoda
in the abode of the celestial beings by sending up
lighted hot air balloons. There are released day and
night competing over their beauty and the altitude they
gain. The festival features a colorful display of
decorated hot-air ballons in different sizes and in the
shapes of animals including elephants, pigs,cattle,
horses, the mythical hintha bird, and hens.
Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda (Golden Rock)
Festival
Location: Kyaikhto, Mon State
Duration: 1 day
Kyaikthiyo Pagoda rests on top of a precariously
balanced boulder overhanging a cliff on top of a ridge
more than 3000 feet above sea level. The stupa itself is
about 20 feet tall, resting on top of a 50 foot boulder
balanced on the rocky cliff. Very Famous as pilgrimage
and holiday outing spot.
