Religion
Over 80 % of Myanmar are Buddhists. There are also
Christians, Muslims, Hindus and even some animists.
However there is full freedom of worship for followers
of other religions. Christian missionaries have been
active in Myanmar for over 150 years. Among them, the
American Baptists were first on the scene.

The
People
Myanmar has a population of about 55 million. There are
135 different ethnic groups and 8 main national races
with their own traditional cultures, customs and
believing systems. The main major races are Kachin,
Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Bamar, Mon, Rakhine and Shan. The 70
percent of the population are ethnic Bamar.

Culture

Myanmar has its own culture and lies between two great
civilizations, India and China. Myanmar culture is
unique and exotic. The people have preserved the
traditions of close family ties, respect for elders and
simple native dress.

Language
The major language is Myanmar and English is widely used
and understood.

National
Flag
Myanmar's
new flag was adopted on 21st Oct,2010.
It consists of three horizontal colors;
yellow top, middle green, bottom red. A large, white and
five-pointed star is in the centre of the flag. The
color yellow represents solidarity, the color green
represents peace, tranquility and vegetation, the color
red represents courage and decisiveness and the white
star represents the union of the country.

Currency
Myanmar currency is Kyat (pronounced 'chat'), made up of
100 pyas.

1000, K 500, K 200, K 100, K 50,
K 20, K 15, K 10, K 5, K 1.
